Skiing & Snowboarding on Mt Ruapehu

On the hotels door step is New Zealand’s largest ski areas Turoa and Whakapapa. Skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing or just playing in the snow is a wonderful way to enjoy winter.

Off piste areas for experienced skiers and the opportunity to explore the backcountry with the assistance of experienced guides is possible. Ski passes are valid at both Whakapapa and Turoa offering visitors more variety and interest.

Turoa Ski Area

-  The highest ski area in New Zealand
-  Australasia’s longest vertical at 722 metres
-  Winter season: late June to mid November
-  Size of area: 500 hectares
-  Terrain/Ability levels: Beginner (25%), Intermediate (50%) Advanced (25%)
-  Only 25 mintues from the Hotel

 
Whakapapa Ski Area

-  New Zealand’s largest developed ski area (550 hectares)
-  Winter season duration: Late June – Mid November
-  Terrain/Ability levels: Beginner (25%), Intermediate (50%), Advanced (25%)
-  Scenic chairlift rides in summer: December – April
-  Only 45 minutes from the Hotel
